Conners’ Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS)

by C. Keith Conners,Drew Erhardt & Elizabeth Sparrow
Age:18 and older
Administration: 10-15 minutes
The long versions of the self-report form (CAARS-S:L) and observer form (CAARS-0:L) have 66 items and contain 9 empirically derived scales that assess a broad range of problem behaviors. Also included on the long forms are 3 DSM-IVâ„¢ Symptoms measures (Inattentive Symptoms, Hyperactive-Impulsive Symptoms and Total ADHD Symptoms), a 12-item ADHD Index, and an Inconsistency Index.
The short versions of the self-report form (CAARS-S:S) and observer form (CAARS-O:S) contain 26 items and are abbreviated versions of the factor-derived subscales that appear on the long forms, plus the ADHD Index and the Inconsistency Index. The CAARS Screening Versions (CAARS-S:SV and CAARS-O:SV) include the same 12-item ADHD Index available on the long and short forms and contains the DSM-IVâ„¢ ADHD Symptom Subscales, 18 items that relate to DSM-IVâ„¢ criteria for ADHD. These forms contain the scales most relevant to clinical assessment of ADHD and are ideal in situations in which insufficient time is available to complete the long forms.
